Wrap the chair in the material. To get the greatest results, experiment with the cloth. To better work with it, secure it with pins.

It worked best for me when I divided it into two pieces: one for the seat, which would be tucked behind the chair back while leaving the legs exposed; and one to drape over the front and back of the chair back, leaving the sides open because I didn’t have enough fabric to diy armchair covers. If you don’t have enough fabric, cut your fabric to include a four-inch margin of safety (or little less). I required the extra inches so that I could tuck the seat fabric into the back of the chair, attach the seat and back fabrics together, and nail it to the underside of the chair.

The cut edges along the chair’s sides should be concealed by folding them over with the fabric that will be used for the chair back (not the seat fabric). I laid the fabric print side down and folded the edges, ironing it with stitch witchery to keep them folded, using the extra four inches (or less if you didn’t have enough fabric). Make sure the fabric still spans the width of the chair from end to end after you’ve folded the edges, as shown above.

I replaced the fabric of the chair’s seat and back on the chair. I attached the seat fabric to the chair back fabric using stitch witchery, and then, as you can see above, I tucked the seam down into the chair to conceal it.

Adjusting and securing the cover in place
